Earrings

Jhumkas, studs and hanging earrings.

The peacock leads, then floral forms, Lakshmi, the mango and the lotus. Pearls and American Diamond carry most of the edit, with kemp, mint green beads and gold beads through the coloured designs. Prices run from about Rs 458 to Rs 2,270.

A jhumka is the bell form that hangs from the lobe and moves with the head. A stud sits flat. A hanging earring falls from a fitting without the jhumka's bell. Each is a different weight on the ear, and the difference matters more over a long evening than it does in a photograph.

This edit holds earrings only. For ear cuffs, bugadi and ear chains, which are worn on the outer ear, the upper ridge and up into the hair, see The Ear Edit, which gathers every ear ornament the house makes in one place.

Weight is worth thinking about before motif. A heavy jhumka on an unsupported lobe is uncomfortable long before the evening ends, which is the problem ear chains exist to solve.
