Five habits, each with its reason. Follow them and the piece keeps its finish.

Moisture

Remove before bathing, swimming or exercise. Moisture is the primary cause of tarnishing.

Last on

Put the piece on after hairspray, perfume and lotion have fully dried.

After wearing

Wipe gently with a soft dry cotton cloth to remove oils and sweat.

Storage

Airtight and separate. A zip-lock bag or a closed box, with silica gel or white chalk to absorb humidity. Keeping pieces apart prevents scratches and tangling.

No nail polish

Do not seal a piece with clear nail polish to stop it fading. It damages the coating it is meant to protect.
