Lakshmi and the peacock recur most, with floral forms, the mango and the moon through the smaller pieces. Kemp and pearls carry the weight of the palette, set with American Diamond and ruby. Prices run from around Rs 590 for a single ornament to near Rs 29,000 for a complete set.

Bridal here is a category, not a claim on the occasion. These are the pieces made to be worn together and to be seen from a distance: a maang tikka that follows the parting, a vanki shaped to the inverted chevron of the gopuram, a haram long enough to fall past the waist. They are heavy, and they are meant to be.
